This is the emotional moment a ɢʀɪᴇᴠɪɴɢ elephant shows up to pay his final respect to the man that cared for him, for decades. It took nearly two hours, so the elephant to travel 15 miles to say a final salute to his favorite human!
For six decades, Damodaran Nair, also known in his community as Omanchetan, worked with elephants and had a very special way with them. But when it came to his favorite elephant, Pallata Brahmadathan, the mahout would treat the gentle giant as if he were his own son and shared a bond unlike any other with him.
Talking about their relationship, Mr Damodaran ‘s son, Rajesh say, “The bond and love between the two – Damodaran Nair and Pallata Brahmadathan was one to watch and emulate.”
While speaking to The News Minute, Rajesh revealed, “Until ʟᴀsᴛ week, Omanachettan was active as Pallata’s mahout. They developed a deep relationship over the past many years. He considered Pallata as his son.”
It was only a few days before his ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ when the mahout’s health quickly took a turn for the worse. Right before he ᴘᴀssᴇᴅ ᴀᴡᴀʏ, Rajesh had paid him a visit, and that is when Damodaran expressed his wish to see his favorite elephant one ʟᴀsᴛ time. But within minutes after he made his wish known, the dedicated mahout ʙʀᴇᴀᴛʜᴇᴅ his ʟᴀsᴛ.
Although Damodaran ʙʀᴇᴀᴛʜᴇᴅ his ʟᴀsᴛ before the wish was fulfilled, his favorite elephant did travel 15 miles away over the course of 2 hours to pay respects at his ꜰᴜɴᴇʀᴀʟ. The elephant then stood in front of the verandah and raised its trunk twice before Mr Damodaran ‘s son, Rajesh, came over to pat it on the head.
After a few moments, Pallata retreated, but not before paying one ʟᴀsᴛ salute to its mahout with another trunk raise.
The sight moved the people gathered at the house to tears and was shared on Facebook on Thursday by a user who wrote: “This is what happened when elephant Pallata came to pay his respects to his mahout, Omanachettan, who ᴘᴀssᴇᴅ ᴀᴡᴀʏ today.”
