Baby Elephant Is ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇᴅ After Falling Down Empty Ditch At Chinese Nature Reserve

A baby elephant’s misadventure turned into an exciting ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇ mission at a nature reserve in southwestern China’s Yunnan province after it fell into a hole approximately two-meteres deep.

The calf was immediately trapped within the four walls of smooth dry earth and struggled to raise itself back up. Fortunately, some local villagers found the hungry and ᴅᴇʜʏᴅʀᴀᴛᴇᴅ animal squealing for help on Tuesday and recorded its exciting ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇ.

The elephant is unable to set itself free after slipping into the pit the previous day when it was raining

Police came bearing some basic tools to help it climb out of its temporary confinement which was approximately two-meteres deep. Unable to let the little elephant worry any more, the ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇrs got to work. One man can be seen using a rake to break down the parched soil while another pours water down the hole for the elephant to drink via its trunk.

The elephant was probably tired, making it difficult for its legs to hold of stand, and it slipped and slided on the undulating ground. However, with words of encouragement from ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇrs and witnesses, the baby elephant calmed down and tried to move.

It takes a lot of strength for the ᴇxʜᴀᴜsᴛᴇᴅ elephant to maneuver its body and it stops to have a break while hanging from the hole.

One of the ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇrs says: “Looking at the traces at the scene, it probably fell into it yesterday [Monday]. Because it rained yesterday, the ground around the pit was slippery.” This makes the ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇ more difficult for them.

After the necessary rest period, the baby elephant continued to climb as hard as possible. It finally reached the top and roams free while onlookers wail with excitement.
